I consider my art practice somewhere very similar or parallel to the art practice followed back in the 19th century’s Company School Paintings which was a mere documentation of different occupations and traditions. Today’s fast paced life style is growing more technical with increased availability/ accessibility of accessories and groceries through a viral culture of malls and online portals, resultantly it is vanishing the occupation of hawkers from city areas whereas, hawkers have been a crucial part of our culture from past many centuries and in this scenario too, they have managed to mark their presence at tourist places or some local markets. My art is an effort to document the same with the hawkers of 21st century working in modernized culture.
The process of working evolves through communication with these hawkers regarding their life style and daily job. This conversation includes simple questions like; where do they live? What time they arrive? What time they leave? How long it has been for them working in this field? Once I am done with the conversation and photographs, I paint them in simplified manner. This hawkers are migrated from different regions and working in a self-indulged manner for their living. They forgot their sorrow of life and try to sell their product to the visitors. i want to share thar experience with my viewers.
I have been working on an international residency program a few months ago at Scotland (The Glenfiddich international residency) . Always I try to give some entertain visitors through my works .
